Job Opportunities in Plant Biology and Plant Systematics at McGill
University

Assistant Curator (part-time)
McGill University Herbarium.

The Assistant Curator will be responsible for the maintenance of plant
specimens and specimen databases and day-to-day management of the
herbarium including identification, labeling, accessioning,
cataloguing, fumigating, and filing of specimens and maintaining
records of herbarium loans and exchanges.  The Assistant Curator will
also assist students, local researchers, and visiting scientists in
using the herbarium and will assist the Curator in supervising student
and volunteer workers.  The Assistant Curator's responsibilities could
be extended to the collection and maintenance of plant materials
(including dried specimens and fresh flowers to be frozen) to be used
each year in our courses in plant systematics.   The McGill University
Herbarium houses about 135,000 specimens, with specialization in
eastern Canadian flora, arctic and subarctic flora worldwide, and
Cyperaceae.

Requirements:  M.Sc. in Botany or Biology with experience in plant
identification and/or museum management.  Computer literacy, including
familiarity with word-processing, spreadsheet, and database management
programs is essential.   Applicants with a B.Sc. in Botany or Biology
and appropriate herbarium experience may also be considered.

Lecturer in Plant Science  (part-time)

The Department of Plant Science of McGill University (Faculty of
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences) seeks applications for a
part-time lecturer position.  Responsibilities will include teaching
from the areas of plant biology and ecology, plant systematics, plant
biotechnology, plant production and statistics (assignments subject to
change).  The candidate could also be considered for appointment as
Assistant Curator of the McGill Herbarium and/or for part-time
research appointments.  Candidates are expected to have strong
teaching experience in some of the areas mentioned above.  Candidates

both teaching and research, three letters of reference, and teaching
