Several of you have asked more specific directions to the free Microsoft
fonts that include the female and male symbols (as well as Latin, Greek,
and Cyrillic alphabets). They are at
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fontpack/default.htm
The only common word processing programs that can currently access the
symbols are Microsoft Word 97 (Win) and Word 98 (Mac) (this, at least, is
not a Microsoft plot--the fonts and the program both adhere to the Unicode
standard). In Word 97, make sure that one of the Microsoft fonts is
current, then go to the menu choice Insert | Symbol. Scroll down (quite a
ways) until you find the symbols.
