Catalog of Fishes

The Catalog of Fishes (1998 Edition) is back on on-line and query-able
at:

http://research.calacademy.org/ich/fishcatsearch.html

The interface supports free-text searches against the three main files:
Genera (10,374), Species (53,701), and References (17,120).  The
underlying technology is no longer Gopher/WAIS, however, so the syntax
is bit different from the earlier incarnation. Search results are now
displayed with bold and italic type, diacritic marks, and hyperlinks
(references are now a click away.)

An updated version should be available (on-line) later in the fall.
