I don't want to brag too much but that's exactly the case with the
Orthoptera:
(A) seven volumes of the Orthoptera Species File by Dan Otte (taxonomic
catalog of Orthoptera) have been published as books between 1994 and 1998
(the last, 8th volume is in preparation)
(B) the same information, plus images of types and sound recordings of
selected species, is available freely on the Internet
(http://viceroy.eeb.uconn.edu/Orthoptera)
(C) the first CD of the catalog (including images) just came out.
Seems to me that our Orthopterists' Society leads the way in
dissemination of taxonomic information :-)
And the feedback we receive almost daily from users all over the world
indicated that we DO make a difference and stimulate research in this
group.
Sincerely,
Piotr
