author & date for common species

This may seem like an odd request.  For a paper I've written for the journal
Crustaceana I need to specify author and date for all species mentioned.
One is Drosophila melanogaster, which as everyone is aware is a favorite lab
beast for developmental/ genetic studies.  So, I checked all the
developmental biology, molecular biology, and genetic books that I could
find and no one gives the author and date for this species.  Neither does my
insect biology text.  Maybe its only the  journals that routinely publish
taxonomic papers that require complete citations these days.  Anyway, help
with this citation would be greatly appreciated.
