nomina perpropria

I'm a new student to this subject and I felt it necessary to point out that
the history that surrounds the naming of certain species is a major factor
that has drawn me into this subject among other things.
The point is that the naming of the species does not appear to be
descriptive of the species but of the personality of the person describing the
species and or the situation in which the species was described. This is what
made this subject very interesting and entertaining to me once that history
was know. I'll be willing to bet you would loose many students of taxonomy if
anyone was to place a damper on this by forcing a practice of only descriptive names.
