The fossils mentioned in the press release are all from a locality in
New Jersey. They are fusainized or charcoalified, not permineralized,
so thin sections and acetate peels are not useful (unless perhaps the
specimen were imbedded in resin?), but SEMs give excellent results. A
long series of papers on fossils from this locality has appeared over
the past few years in American Journal of Botany. The authors include
William Crepet, Kevin Nixon, and Maria Gandolfo.
