Passing of William D'Arcy

Dear Colleagues,

It is my sad duty to report the passing of another member of the botanical
community.  Dr. William G. D'Arcy passed away about 4:00 p.m. CST on
Thursday, 16 December 1999 in St. Louis, after a long fight with cancer.
He will be remembered for his many contributions to the study of the
Solanaceae and the Flora of Panama over a long and illustrious career.  We
were very lucky that he was able to enjoy and participate in the
International Botanical Congress held in August of this year.  It gave him
the opportunity to see many of his friends and colleagues.  I know that
this meant a great deal to him.  For those of us who worked with him on a
daily basis, he will be sorely missed.
