Dear Colleagues,

will be of interest to the many botanists on TAXACOM who knew Joe
Ewan during his long and productive career.

Dear Friends of Joe Ewan:
Joe died peacefully Sunday morning, Dec. 5, 1999, with Nesta by his side.
Their daughter Kathleen & her husband Richard, to whom Joe was so
appreciative for the care they gave him, came within minutes.
A few of us visited Joe & Nesta this Thanksgiving. We were pleased that
his mind and sense of humor were still alive & healthy. However, he was
frail, and we all knew an important chapter in our lives was ending. While
we mourn his death, all of us who knew him can be grateful we had Joe Ewan
in our lives as long as we did.
True to character to the end, Joe refused hospitalization though he know he
was dying. When asked what they should do if his heart stopped beating, he
said to tell everybody Good-Bye. The Family will plant a tree in Joe's
honor and have a private remembrance at a park they enjoyed visiting.
That's just how he would have wanted it.
Messages may be sent to Nesta & her daughters Kathleen, Dorothy, & Marj, in
care of: Kathleen & Richard Harris 820 Austerlitz Mandeville, LA. 70448
Nesta's direct address is:
Nesta Ewan
Heritage Manor
1820 Causeway Approach
Mandeville LA 70471
Enjoy this day. Life is short, even when you live to be 90. Good-Bye
from Joe.
