5th Meeting of PhD students in Evolutionary Biology 24-26 March 1999,
Umea, Sweden
We have the pleasure to invite you to the 5th Meeting of PhD students in
Evolutionary Biology, in Umea, Sweden. The meeting is organised by PhD
students in Genetics and Ecological Botany of both Umea University and
University of Oulu (Finland).
Our intention is to bring together postgraduate students from different
fields of evolutionary biology, in order to present their work and to
discuss current topics of evolution. Especially those are encouraged to
participate who have little or no experience in presenting their work in
front of an international audience. You can present your results
(preliminary or not) or just your future experiments and plans and see what
the other PhD students are working on, to exhange ideas with them and share
experiences.
The schedule will include short talks (15 minutes and 5 minutes for
discussions each), poster sessions and, if there is interest, round table
discussions. The aims of the meeting are both scientific and instructive.
Professionals of communication will videotape the talks and comment them
with interested speakers. Emphasis is given on the improvement of the
presentation abilities of the speakers. All participants will be asked to
give written comments on a few presentations (both talks and posters).
There is no registration fee for the meeting. Low cost accomodation will be
available in cottages in Umea camping. We may also be able to cover a
limited number of flight tickets for people who cannot afford them.
During the meeting, a lively social program will offer opportunities for
informal exchange of ideas. On Saturday the 27th of March two excursions
will be organised that allow the participants to familiarize themselves to
one of Sweden's last wild rivers, Umea history and to huge amounts of snow.
It is possible to rent skis for the excursion.
The book of abstracts will be available in printed form at the registration
desk and on the web in the beginning of March.
Umea University supports financially and hosts the meeting in its new
buildings.
For registration or more information, visit our web site at the address:
