NYBG North American Bryophyte Catalog Update

     NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN NORTH AMERICAN BRYOPHYTE CATALOG
     (http://www.nybg.org/bsci/hcol/bryo/bry3.html).

     The first installment of hepatic and anthocerote records from the 48
     contiguous United States has been added to the NYBG North American
     Bryophyte Catalog.  Thus, our complete holdings of North American
     specimens of the following families are now available for searching:

     Anthocerotaceae (569 records)          Scapaniaceae (2258 records)
     Notothylaceae (115 records)            Jungermanniaceae (4829 records)
     Lepicoleaceae (9 records)              Arnelliaceae (120 records)
     Herbertaceae (236 records)             Plagiochilaceae (1199 records)
     Pseudolepicoleaceae (561 records)      Gyrothyraceae (58 records)
     Acrobolbaceae (16 records)             Radulaceae (961 records)
     Lepidoziaceae (1423 records)           Jubulaceae (152 records)
     Calypogeiaceae (734 records)           Frullaniaceae (2830 records)
     Antheliaceae (115 records)             Allisoniaceae (4 records)

     The total number of records now available for searching is now
     approximately 87,000.  We anticipate completing the cataloging and
     posting of the remaining hepatic families by December, 1998.

     Additional funding has been sought to catalog and post our holdings of
     mosses from the lower 48 states of the U.S.

     NEW-FEATURES OF THE NYBG NORTH AMERICAN BRYOPHYTE CATALOG WEB SITE:

     1. A non-technical introduction to the bryophytes, with links to other
     particularly useful bryophyte web sites.

     2. A list of the main bryophyte herbaria in North America, with a brief
     summary of their bryophyte holdings, and a link to the main Index
     Herbariorum entry for that herbarium.

     The NYBG North American Bryophyte Catalog project is supported in part
     by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
