So I looked it up online. Firstly, all you botanists - it's definitely not a plant.

** Lagomorpha
*** Leporidae
**** Lepus insularis Bryant 1891

Speaking from profound ignorance of North American (I presume) fauna
- it's a terrestrial rabbit-like creature then? A hare?
