 A type really has to be an eternal, sacred
          thing? or would it be more useful to adapt types to modern
          industrial DINs or ISOs or norms and simply put a date of
          validity on it?

          The value of types is that unlike the modern world, they are
          stable.  - sh

I am way out of this loop, what are DINs and ISOs?

          Neotypes can be designated under special circumstances such
          as loss of the original.  An expanded description can be
          made available based on new material.
