Calorimeters for ecology

I am looking for recommendations about apparatus that can be used for
caloric determinations of samples collected in ecological studies.  I
know that the classic bomb calorimeters are available for prices starting
about $3000-3500 for a basic unit and much higher for automated units.
Are there any less expensive devices that also yield good results?
