Jenny, "Play up" that you are at a good size herbarium; it must rank high
in your state. Even if not the biggest, it is important regionally.
Remember the big three: teaching, research, and service. Point out how the
herbarium functions in all these areas. Identify all the courses and
students that use the herbarium. Emphasize the loans, exchange program and
visits by specialists. Keep track of the plant identifications and other
botanical information/outreach derived from the collection. Establish
contacts with the state natural heritage program, local amateurs, and state
extension agents--get them to urge support!
