Microwave

I thought that the problem had to do with the distribution of the
microwaves in the oven--they are aimed into the center. I put an adult
cigarette beetle in a small vial in a corner of a microwave and it was
quite happy during the running of the oven (OK, I'm not sure if it was
happy--I suppose that herbarium beetle happiness is a juicy herbarium
sheet--but it seemed at least unperturbed). Then I put it in the center of
the oven, and a minute of microwaves killed it quite convincingly.
