Oak Gall (?) identification

Hello.  Wondering if anyone out there could help with identification
of the organism linked to small (ca. 2mm wide), reddish, star-like
structures that we just discovered on leaves of our only specimen of
Quercus lacyei (Lacey's Oak - from Bandera County, Texas)?  Am
assuming that they are some sort of gall, but they could be fungal -
look a bit like an opened  'earth star'.  Photos are at:
