Lythrum hyssopifolia or hyssopifolium ?

In most publication this species is listed as Lythrum hyssopifolia L.
Why not Lythrum hyssopifolium ? I gather that in "Lythrum salicaria"
"Salicaria" is a generic name used as a specific epithet, but why
"hyssopifolia" ? Any explanation, please?
