POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
RESEARCH INFORMATION MANAGER
CENTER FOR BIODIVERSITY RESEARCH & INFORMATION
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Research, this position is
responsible for the development, management and coordination of information
management tools and databases and implementation of World Wide Web applications
for the Research Division.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development of the unified Academy-wide database using client/server tools
and programs for distributed computing
- Provision of higher level assistance for Research databases and other
applications
- Development and management of Internet accessible databases
- Evaluate and implement emergent computer technology and software
- Follow all Academy safety regulations
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience
- BS/MS degree
- Strong knowledge and experience with GIS, SQL, UNIX, Windows 95, Windows NT
and WWW
- Experience in development of multimedia programs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Organizational and supervisory skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and experience with relational and object-oriented databases and
distributed computing
- Competence in the use of "PC's, MAC's, Windows, Windows NT, SUN, SGI and
other UNIX work stations
- Demonstrated background and interest in the biological sciences
- Excellent computer hardware, software, networking and troubleshooting
skills
- Knowledge of PERL and C programming highly desirable
- Ability to work cooperatively and productively with Academy staff and
associated partner institutions
- Ability to manage time and limited resources in completing multiple
concurrent projects
- Ability to learn independently
