jicama again

Has anyone on this list heard of jicama (also under the name "wild
Mexican yam") being used to treat diabetes?  I have a query from someone
who is curious about some folk remedies for diabetics that are being
promoted by some of his friends and by an herbal company.  The references
are to jicama (the non-table variaties) and to "wild Mexican yam," which
could be one of at least 10-12 different plants.
