What with global warming and all, it is unlikely that the weather
conditions that turned Rudolph into a local hero will reoccur.
Since Rudolph was not allowed to play in any reindeer games
(undoubtably a precursor to mating), and without local hero
status continually reenforced, his genetic material will not be
passed on.

Based on the above, I would not even assign subspecies status.
Just some sort of weird sport.  Sorry Rudolph.
