Dear Liz McGhee:

"GMNH" is an abbreviation NOT an acronym.

For a list of museum codes try the following website maintained by the
American Society of Ichthtyologists and Herpetologists.

http://seahorse.ims.usm.edu/~musweb/asih_codes.cgi

The American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists (ASIH) established
a list of standardized institutional codes
to be used to reference individual ichthyological archival collections
worldwide. GCRL maintains an updated version
of this list that includes current status of these collections, hyperlinks
to websites, and email addresses of contacts.
This list has been published in Copeia.

       Corrections. Copeia 1988(1):280-282.

Provisional codes for new collections together with summary data for US and
Canadian Collections have been
published in Copeia as well and are indicated by an asterisk.
