Hello,
This thread interests me, as our museum is just setting up, having
inherited most of the natural history collections of Carleton
University in Ottawa, and our Curation procedures are now being
developed.
It is my understanding that there are laser printers, and
Laser Printers... and the methods of fixing blackness on the paper are
different. Ours is a 1980's Canon QMS800. We were told that the ink-jet
or bubble-jet printers lay the toner ontop of the paper, but the more
expensive laser printers "burn" the letters into the paper surface.
Has anyone compared the durability of print from various kinds of
printers?
I suppose this should have been done by the manufacturers as they began
to market each new printer technology, but perhaps none of them knew how
critical it would become to fluid-stored biological information.
A.
