I have been reading with amusement the postings concerning
the upcoming IAPT elections. First, let me say that these postings
are my only source of information on the subject; I have no
idea whether the charges made against Dr. Greuter have any basis
in fact or not.
It seems to me that the people on the two sides of the debate
are discussing two different things. They are "comparing apples
and mangosteens," to mangle a common American expression. The
choice appears to be either autocratic rule by Dr. Greuter and his
nominees or a democratic rule dominated by the US. Certainly one
could conceive of an acceptable compromise, i.e. a democratically
elected slate with sufficient geographic representation. If the
slate suggested a few days ago is inadequate, another could certainly
be substituted and voted upon fairly and democratically.
