Dear Neal,
thank you very much,
it is very interesting that there are more databases and they show
different abbreviation for the same museum. Looks like that insects/spiders
database differ from ichtyological or/and botanical database.
I have received another response (look bellow).
The my question raised when I have discovered that Museum in Genoa has the
same abbreviation as the Museum in Trieste. Will be very puzzling if you
know that type material is located in museum MCSN (Museum in Genoa or Museum
in Trieste) or SMNH what could be the museum in Saskatchewan and in
Stockholm... isnt it?
>>Following "Survey of ichthyological resources in European museums and
collections by Kottelat, Nielsen, and Nijssen
MSNG is Museo civico di Storia naturale "Giacomo Doria" in Genova and MCSN
is Museo civico di Storia naturale in Trieste.
But this is of course for fish. In our museum in Stockholm the Vertebrate
collection, entomology collection etc. has the acronym NRM, but, the
invertebrate collection has the acronym SMNH, and the botany collection is
abbreviated S only!<<<
P.S.
and thanks to Insects and Sider collections database the SMNH is
Saskatchewan Regina Museum of natural History...
Richard
