Dear Taxacomers,
I would like to announce the availability of the database of Orthopteroid
insects of the world (all taxa described prior to 1997). The database
contains complete synonymic and taxonomic information as well as type
locality and type depository data for over 16,000 species of
Tettigonioidea (katydids and haglids), Grylloidea (crickets and mole
crickets), Tridactyloidea (sand crickets), and Tetrigoidea (pygmy
grasshoppers). In addtion, the database of Tettigonioidea contains over
3,100 images (mostly actual type specimens) and many sound recordings of
acoustic species. Visit it at:
http://viceroy.eeb.uconn.edu/Orthoptera
The database is the result of a joint effort of Daniel Otte (Academy of
Natural Sciences, Philadelphia) and Piotr Naskrecki (University of
Connecticut), and was funded by the National Science Foundation.
I welcome all comments and suggestions.
Sincerely, Piotr Naskrecki
