SEARCH FOR DEPARTMENT CHAIR
George Mason University, Department of Biology seeks nominations and
candidates for the CHAIR OF THE DEPARTMENT.The department seeks an
individual with dynamic leadership capability, an understanding of
university citizenship, demonstrated administrative
experience, and outstanding credentials. The successful individual will
have the vision to lead the department in a college with a new Dean and a
university with a new President, both of whom are interested in strong
leadership for the future of one of the college's largest departments.
The individual who holds the position will have an opportunity to make
significant contributions to the development of the direction of the
college and the university.
Candidates should be able to promote academic excellence within the
department, increase the current level of external funding, and promote
interdisciplinary initiatives with other academic units within the
college, the Institute for Biosciences, Bioinformatics, and Biotechnology,
the Institute for Computational Sciences and Informatics, the Krasnow
Institute, and the Institute for Public Policy.
The department is committed to preparing students with a sound liberal
arts curriculum with substantial experience in quantitative and analytical
thought along with preparation for a related profession. It has 30
full-time faculty and offers BA and BS degrees in Biology, BS in Medical Technology,
a MS degree in Biology and a PhD in Environmental Science and Public
Policy.
George Mason University is the state university for northern Virginia and
is located in the metropolitan Washington DC area and has an approximate
enrollment of 24,000. The University's and Department's homepage
