Flora of North America
An exceptional opportunity exists for an individual to join the Research
Division at Missouri Botanical Garden as a Technical Editor for the Flora
of North America project. The Flora of North America is a project
undertaken by the community of systematic botanists to provide a wide range
of users with authoritative information on the names, relationships,
characteristics, and distributions of all plants that grow outside of
cultivation in North America north of Mexico.
The selected individual will technically edit manuscripts so they conform
to the strict requirements of FNA, work closely with editors, authors, and
reviewers to provide the highest quality style, form, and consistency, as
well as adherence to terminology rules, parallel construction within
treatments, and correct use of literature citations ensuring highest
quality manuscripts for print- and web-based publication.
Qualifications include a Master's degree in Botany/Biology or related field
or equal combination of education and experience. Knowledge of scientific
conventions, botanical terminology, and publications experience
required. Demonstrated relevant experience in natural sciences technical
editing preferred. Word processing and spreadsheet experience essential.
