In a notice published 5 December 1996 (Federal Register 61:64481-64485),
the United States Fish and Wildlife Service confirmed its decision to
discontinue the practice of maintaining a list of "Category 2" candidate
species for endangered or threatened status under the Endangered Species
Act of 1973. Numerous mollusk species were affected by this decision.
I have posted a list of those mollusk species, together with brief
introductory material, at the following web site:
http://ucmp1.berkeley.edu/barryr/cat2.html
The names have been updated in accordance with current molluscan literature.
