PAPUA NEW GUINEA INSECT ECOLOGY RESEARCH
We are pleased to announce the WWW site for our collaborative insect
ecology research in Papua New Guinea, including data on a series of
projects undertaken since 1987:
http://www.bishop.hawaii.org/bishop/natsci/ng/ngecol.html
The most comprehensive coverage is devoted to our recent study of
herbivorous insects associated with 15 species of Ficus at Madang. We
are adding data from ongoing fieldwork on 15 species of Euphorbiaceae at
Madang. For general overview of our research program, we have included a
presentation from a June 1997 biodiversity symposium in Korea:
http://www.bishop.hawaii.org/bishop/natsci/ng/korea.html
Collaborating institutions include Bishop Museum, Christensen Research
Institute, Czech Academy of Sciences, International Institute of
Entomology, and Wau Ecology Institute, with funding from the U.S.
National Science Foundation and others. Principal investigators include
Allen Allison, Yves Basset, Scott Miller, Larry Orsak, Vojtech Novotny,
and G.A. Samuelson.
We are looking for a graduate student to help with the program, which
would require at least two years of residence in Papua New Guinea. For
further information, contact Scott Miller, Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice
Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96817, USA or scottm at bishop.bishop.hawaii.org.
