Tom Lammer's comments are quite well put.  The bottom line, as I see it,
is that there is a reciprocal benefit for the "loaner" and the "loanee".
Essentially, it is a barter system.  If you agree to send the specimens
to me, I will agree to provide my taxonomic expertise to you.  And, I
will provide this expertise (which may involve many hours of my time) for
the cost of the shipping charges.  It's a real bargain!
