Mellon Awards for Workshops in Tropical Biology

        The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) and the Smithsonian
Tropical Research Institute (STRI) invite proposals for two workshops
focused on synthesizing research objectives for tropical forest ecology in
Costa Rica and Panama.  Funding is up to $15,000 for each workshop.
Proposals should describe the general topic, the specific objectives,  the
venue and projected products (i.e., publications,...etc) of the workshop,
as well as list the participants and their special contributions to the
workshop.  The deadline for applications is September 2, 1997.  For further
