Dear Taxacomers,

appended is an add for a job opening for a metazoon taxonomist
(preferably with some molecular background) at GenBank to work on the
NCBI taxonomy project.

We would appreciate if the add would not be crossposted to other
newgroup on the web. We are interested in people that the scientists
on the taxcom newsgroup know (and recommend) personally.

If there are any questions about that what the pros and cons of the
work at the NCBI are, please don't hestitate to contact me by phone or
email - formal applications however should go to David Landsman as
detailed below.

Sincerely,

  Detlef Leipe

Taxonomist Position at NCBI/GenBank

The Taxonomy Project at the National Center for Biotechnology
Information (NCBI) in the National Library of Medicine (NLM) is looking
for a postdoctoral scientist with a minimum of 3 years of experience in
metazoan systematics. The NCBI/GenBank taxonomy group attempts to
follow phylogenetic principles wherever possible and it would be
preferable if the candidate were familiar with this approach. The
successful candidate will be required to devote 50% of her/his time to
the work associated with maintaining the taxonomy database. This
includes look-ups in the literature for taxonomic schemes, keeping
contact with our outside taxonomy advisors, checking for the validity
of names, and adding new organisms to the existing taxonomy database.
The other 50% of the time will be available for independent research.

The initial salary will be between US$ 35,000-50,000 and will depend on
the successful applicants experience. The initial appointment will be a
commitment for two years and could be extended. Starting dates are
negotiable but appointments will be made as soon as possible.

Applications can be sent via mail, e-mail or faxed to the address
below.
