     ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS SYDNEY

     +SENIOR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR PLANT SCIENCES (Pos No. RBG 97/62). The
     Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney is a distinguished centre for botanical,
     ecological and horticultural research, the practice of horticulture
     and for plant related conservation, education and community programs.
     The Senior Assistant Director Plant Sciences will lead world class
     research and development programs in the areas of systematic botany,
     plant ecology and horticultural research; maintain and improve the
     State's primary botanical specimen collection, as well as ensuring
     that the Gardens' plant sciences programs complement State priorities,
     particularly in the areas of biodiversity research and plant
     conservation.

     Essential: Excellent leadership, vision, communication and negotiation
     skills to provide the direction of the Plant Sciences Branch, with a
     commitment to best practice. University qualifications, practical
     professional experience and accumulated knowledge and awareness of
     relevant plant sciences issues and of the community roles of modern
     botanical gardens. A record of outstanding achievement and recognised
     professional standing in one or more of the disciplines of plant
     sciences. Ability to develop and implement strategies for the
     advancement of the Branch. Proven ability in managing a
     multi-disciplinary science team. Effectiveness in formulating policy
     and ability to contribute to the development of Government policies in
     relation to plant sciences in biodiversity, scientific information and
     conservation. An understanding of the role of plant sciences within a
     botanic gardens. Commitment to ethical work practices and employment
     equity.

     An attractive remuneration package within the SES Level 2 band,
     $108,595-$125,495 and a contract up to five (5) years will be
     negotiated.
