The Missouri Botanical Garden's new research building, which will house the
library and the vascular plant collection, is scheduled for completion 1
November 1997. As a result of this new construction and the impending move
of the herbarium to the new facility, it will be necessary to suspend access
to the collection beginning 20 October 1997 and lasting until approximately
5 January 1998. Only the vascular plant collection will be affected by this
move. During this time, the herbarium will be unavailable to visitors, nor
will loans be pulled and sent. At the same time, we would ask any
corresponding institutions that they do not send loans, gifts for
identification or exchange to the Garden during this period. Anyone
contemplating travel to the Garden to work in the herbarium should
reschedule their visit for later in 1998.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience this move may create for members of
the botanical research community. However, the new facilities and expanded
storage areas will greatly improve access to the collection. We will make
every effort to open the collection to full use as soon as possible.
Further announcements to this affect will be posted on TAXACOM when more
information is available.
