The Taxonomic Resources and Expertise Directory (TRED) is a
directory of taxonomic specialists for the biota of North
America (North of Mexico). This directory is developed and
maintained through a partnership between the Association of
Systematics Collections (ASC) and the U.S.Geological Survey,
Biological Resources Division and was developed in part to
support the National Biological Information Infrastructure
(NBII) http://www.nbii.gov/ and the Integrated Taxonomic
Information System (ITIS).
The TRED Database currently contains information submitted by
661 taxonomic specialists.
You may access this directory through the ITIS home page
http://www.itis.usda.gov/itis/ Once on the home page, select
TRED - taxonomic experts in the left column.
Once on the TRED page, if you wish, you may complete the TRED
questionnaire for taxonomic specialists. This questionnaire is
maintained at the ASC (Association of Systematic Collections)
homepage http://www.ascoll.org/ . If you are already a
participant, you may also update your record within the TRED
Database. The TRED Database is maintained by ASC.
There are two methods of obtaining information in the TRED Database:
1. Select by the taxonomic specialist's name: information will be
provided concerning the general and specific taxonomic expertise,
geographic expertise, and habitat expertise as provided by the
individual.
2. Select by the taxon: information will identify the taxonomic
specialist(s) for that particular taxon. Selecting by taxon also
allows you to select by one or more of the following categories:
A. general taxonomic expertise OR specific taxonomic expertise
B. geographic expertise
C. habitat expertise
Hope this information is of assistance.
