   New colour photo almanac, "Entomological reference-book", is ori-
ginal encyclopaedia of the world of insects.  This book was prepared
to print by well-known Ukrainian entomologist,  Doctor of Biological
Sciences, Ermolenko Valeriy.  This book will include original photos
(which  were done exclusively by Dr Ermolenko V.) of 542 insect spe-
cies from  16  orders  of  Class  "Insecta".  Entomological   "Photo
reference  book"  is  based on large systematic collection of colour
photo slides of insect species and made  by  author  exclusively  in
the nature at the time of his numerous scientific field expeditions.
These expeditions took  places  in  different  regions  of  Ukraine,
European  part  of  Russia,  Siberia,  Far  East (Kurilian Islands),
Caucasus,  Transcaucasia,  Kazakhstan and Middle Asia of the  former
USSR.
    This book  contains  not  only  the  photos of imago for most of
insect species but also of their  larvae,  pupae,  coccoons,  nests,
etc.  Colour photo of "Insects Portraits" are very interesting.  The
high level of novelty of photos of insects in this  book  should  be
underlined. There  are many unique frames of rare,  disappearing and
hiddenly living insects.
    Insect species of very different of their scientific, cognitive,
educative, aesthetical and practical importance are included in  the
"Photo reference-book".
    In different nature reservations, national parks and wild nature
the author was lucky enough to immortalise on slide film many insect
species included in the "Red Book of USSR" (1984) and "Red  Book  of
Ukraine" (1994). There is no doubt that numerous "Red Book"'s insect
species are the "pearls" of this new prepared book and form a  great
contribution to  the  insect conservation' actions.  All included in
the book colour insect photos are accompanied by the  names  of  the
species,  order  and family in Ukrainian and Latin languages.  There
are short sketches with descriptions  of  the  general  form,  size,
lifestyle,   behaviour  peculiarities,  distribution  and  practical
importance of all species.
    In the  "Reference-book"  there  are  many rare,  beneficial and
bright insect species as well as many insect species of pests of the
agriculture  and  forestry  and pathogenes carriers.  There are also
many pictures of  beneficial  insects  -  soil  formers,  predators,
entomophages, pollinators of the field and cultural plants.
    The general  succession of the photo pictures and species sketc-
hes disposition  is correlated with their order and family names and
completely  conformed  to  modern  scientific  system  of  Class  of
Insects.
    This edition  will  be  indoubtedly  interesting  for the scien-
tists-systematicts of  different  insect  groups  as well as for the
teachers and  students  of  biological  Divisions  of  Universities,
Pedagogical, Agricultural  Institutes,  secondary  schools and young
naturalists' Clubs,  photographers,  plant  protection  specialists,
reservations' zoologists and the broad groups of nature amateurs.
