First New Species Published on the Internet!

Congratulations to Drs. Hammel and Grayum of the Missouri Botanical Garden
who have made history by being the first to formally publish new species
on the Internet. This event should be recorded and remembered as a
groundbreaking act and one that would encourage the Nomenclatural
Commissions to recognize network servers as valid media for taxonomic
description.
What a better source than the Flora of Costa Rica, from a country that
is pioneering new protocols and practices for biodiversity exploration
and data dissemination.
