SUBGENERA, GROUPS etc.

Dear Taxacomnetters,

I am especially interested in Scarabaeidae (Coleoptera) and I have remarked that
European Entomologists have created subgenera for the genera with a lot of
species
and even for those with less.

When consulting articles about the same genera in Nearctic and Neotropical
regions
written by autors of these regions the subgenera created by European autors
are not
used and even not mentioned.

In determination tables there is sometimes a mix of species of different
subgenera.

I understand that when of some genera not that much species occurred in a
certain
region, the use of subgenera can be confusing.

American autors are rather tempt to work with groups within the genus.

All this doesn't make it more easy for amateurs like myself once their
interest become
greater than one region.

With the introduction of species not belonging to the original fauna the
determination
of species become rather difficult, for these species are not mentioned in
regional
articles.

Amateur collectors have only one aim, that is to give their species the
right name.

Is this worth to be discussed.
