Thanks in advance to all who offer help: Your suggestions for possible
terms will help me see this problem from a different perspective.

I am trying to describe a unit in a set of layers in an "egg shell"
(actually a cyst tertiary envelope <TE>). The TE in some species
consists of several layers that are vesicular in cross section. Some
of the vesicular layers are composed of uncountable vesicles, some of
countable regular or irregular rows of vesicles, and some of what
appear to be essentially a single vesicle with columnar supports
maintaining the separation between the layers above and below it.

I have suggested several terms for this layer that have not adequately
conveyed my meaning to others. I have hit a wall in trying to find an
appropriate term or phrase. Your brainstorming suggestions will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks
