Ken Sytsma here at University of Wisconsin-Madison has been collaborating
with other molecular systematists on the genera and families of the
Hamamelidae and potentially related groups for the last few years. They
have published some manuscripts and AIBS abstracts on projects in progress
and will be presenting additional data this summer in Seattle at the AIBS
conference. You should contact him to find out what he and collaborators
are doing phylogenetically and taxonomically and how you all can join
forces:

I am currently working on the systematics of the family Ulmaceae, involving
the integration of traditional and molecular techniques to resolve
taxonomic problems at the specific, sectional and generic level. To date, I
have concentrated my studies on Ulmus (particularly the European elms). I
shortly wish to extend my research to Trema and Celtis. Is anyone else
interested in these genera. If so, plesase contact me. Thank you. Jayne
Armstrong.
