I suggest that those interested in this topic take a look at the
Systematics Agenda 2000 documents prepared by the American Society of
Plant Taxonomists, The Society of Systematic Biologists, and the Hennig
Society. Also consult the November 1995 issue (vol. 45, #10) of
BioScience.
A variety of topics, including priorities, funding, the need for a global
effort, etc, are covered in these documents and reviews. Whether you
agree or not with the content of these documents, they do provide a good
starting place for a discussion such as this.
