I agree!  Even in the commercial wood trade it is nearly impossible
to get everybody to use the same 'common name.'  The Associations and
Institutes have tried, but not everyone follows the list.  In fact,
some companies make up new ones for 'marketing purposes.'  For
example, have you heard of 'pau lope?'  It is a registered trade name!
