Value of 'naming'

Hi Colleagues ...

I am searching for some references/information on the educational value of
young children (say, 8-14 years of age) learning the names of organisms as
part of 'nature study'.  Any information that you can suggest or provide to
me either through this BBS or directly to me would be appreciated.
