Lat Long problem

Data Base Experts,
    I use several programs written in BASIC for capturing and processing data for
our data bases. Now with the economical GPS units, I need to include Lat-Long for
each locality. However, the quote (") in BASIC denotes a string. I can find no
way of including the " for seconds. Is there a way, how, if not what do you do to
indicate seconds?
