declining taxonomists

Apologies all - I may have missed the prelude to Robin Leech's comment on
taxonomists not being replaced by similar, however has anyone posted the
global trend?  For example, at a systematics workshop in Canberra a couple
of years back it was suggested that close to 80% of 'professed' taxonomists
in Australia no longer were.....across all fields......and the future looks
grim for many of the remainder...so much to do, so few to do it (!)
