An apology...sort of

I've just got back from vacation and have looked through about two
weeks' worth of TAXACOM.   I'm amazed at the response my message of
Dec. 31 provoked...

When I posted the story about Ed Drinker Cope being the lectotype for
_Homo sapiens_ , my intent was to amuse--not to contradict
long-standing tradition.  I even indicated that the story needed
checking out.  (So far, it doesn't check out at all...)

My sorrow for stirring up such a ruckus!  As for those who responded
with vicious *personal* attacks--lighten up!!
