REMINDER TO GET APPLICATION FOR AWARD IN MAIL BY MARCH 1, 1996
STUDENT AWARD
1996 NEW ENGLAND BOTANICAL CLUB AWARD
FOR THE SUPPORT OF BOTANICAL RESEARCH
The New England Botanical Club will offer an award of $1,000 in=
support of
botanical research to be conducted in relation to the New England Flo=
ra during
1995. This award is made to stimulate and encourage botanical researc=
h on the
New England flora and to make possible visits to the New England regi=
on by
those who would not otherwise be able to do so. The award will be gi=
ven to
the graduate student submitting the best research proposal dealing wi=
th
systematic botany, biosystematics, plant ecology, or plant conservati=
on
biology, although proposals for research in other areas of botany wil=
l also
be considered.
This award is not limited to graduate students at New England in=
stitutions,
nor to members of the New England Botanical Club. Papers based on th=
is
research must acknowledge the NEBC's support, and it is encouraged th=
at papers
be submitted to _Rhodora_ (NEBC's journal) for possible publication,
subject to standard review procedures.
The 1995 Award recipient was Peter Walker of the University of
Vermont, in support of his work on the systematics of _Ammophila_.
Applicants must submit:
- three copies of a proposal of no more than three double-spaced page=
s
- a budget (the budget will not affect the amount of the award)
- a curriculum vitae
- and two letters in support of the proposed research,
one from the student's thesis advisor.
Proposals and supporting letters must be received no later than March=
1, 1996.
The recipient of the award will be notified by April 30, 1996.
