THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN invites nominations and applications for
the position of

DIRECTOR
of the
TEXAS MEMORIAL MUSEUM


THE TEXAS MEMORIAL MUSEUM is an organized research unit within the College
of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas in Austin.  It is closely
affiliated with the departments of biological and geological sciences in
that college and is both a public display facility and a collections-based
research unit.  The Museum holdings include significant collections of
vertebrates, insects, cave invertebrates, vertebrate and invertebrate
fossils, minerals, and archeological, ethographic, and historical objects.

The College of Natural Sciences is the second largest of the 14 colleges
and schools that comprise The University, with approximately 350 tenured
and tenure-track faculty, 7700 undergraduate majors, 1500 graduate
students, an academic budget of nearly $39 million, federal grants and
research contracts totaling over $57 million annually and $98 million in
endowments.

The Director of the Texas Memorial Museum is the chief executive officer of
the Museum and is expected to provide vision and leadership in both public
outreach and research as well as to manage the budget, and to engage in
fund raising in the private sector.  The Director reports to the Executive
Vice President and Provost through the Dean of the College of Natural
Sciences.

We are looking for a congenial, dynamic leader with demonstrated
outstanding abilities in research, administration, service to the
community, and communication with the private sector.  The candidate must
qualify for appointment to the rank of Professor with tenure in a
department of the College.  Applications and nominations will be accepted
until April 1, 1996; after this date the Committee may request and consider
credentials from candidates nominated by responsible sources.  Nominations
and applications should be accompanied by a letter discussing relevant
experience and accomplishments, a curriculum vitae, and the names of four
