For those of you still confounded by how to get male and female symbols into
your Wordperfect 6.x and Word 6.0 documents.
Here are some methods to do this. These two procedures should be executed
while in the document and at the place in the document you want the symbols
entered.
1. In both programs special characters can be placed using the character
map options under Insert, Character/Symbol, then choose the WP iconic
symbolsA character set, click on the desired character in the map set
symbols and choose insert.
2. Another way is to select Font in the button bar at the top of your
document. Select the WPiconic symbolsA, then type "(Hold) Shift %" for male or
"(Hold) Shift &" for female. The desired character will appear in the
document. If you use this last method, remember to change the font back in
the menu bar to the one you were previously using.
Both WordPerfect and Word allow these characters to be mapped to the
keyboard.
If you are using WPWIN51 try fonts, extended characters in top main tool
button bar.
Another way to explore character sets is to look at the character map in
the windows group Accessories.
I am using an US English version, and have not tried it with other
preferences selected, but if the WP iconic symbolA set that comes with both
programs is installed it should work with any preference, since the ANSI
codes are still the same for most of them (see your DOS manual for
confirmation).
Hope this is helpful.
